Keyword Meta Tag Usage
By Joe Cavell | June 13, 2008
The Keyword Meta Tag seems to have lost some value due to spamming issues back in the late 1990’s. Although Google doesn’t index this tag, Yahoo and MSN give some importance to it. However the Keyword Meta Tag alone is not sufficient to get top ranking for your site.
Some may suggest that to find the best keywords is to capture them from your competitor’s sites. However, it may be best to us general or generic terms. Not allowing your competition to have access to your keywords is worth not having the benefits of Yahoo and MSN listings.
Let’s see what the Keyword Meta Tag looks like and is located.
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Your Site’s Title Here</TITLE>
<META NAME=”keywords” CONTENT=”keyword1, keyword2, keyword3″>
</HEAD>
It’s not necessary to use commas since they are not indexed or used by the search engines to separate keyword phrases. Webmasters use them mainly for aesthetic reasons.
