To see the top scoring titles for your target keyword phrase, go to Google and type in “allintitle:keyphrase”. An example would be if I wanted to know the Titles for “internet marketing” it would look like:

This example shows the top three natural results and it’s a good idea to look at the top 30 to get good ideas about how to make your title more effective.
Let’s see where the title is located.
The Title is located in the HTML code and contained in the <HEAD> tag near the top of the document and looks like this:
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Your Site’s Title Here</TITLE>
</HEAD>

How Should Titles Be Done?
Unfortunately the algorithms of Google, Yahoo and MSN are all very different. What does this mean? It means that the “Perfect Title” does not exist. These seems to be enough difference in these top three search engines’ algorithms to NOT allow a top ranking to be possible with all three with the Title tag alone.
Review for Title Tag:
The Title is found between the tags, it appears at the top of the browser window and as the linked text in the search results. The page Title is indexed by all the major search engines and is used for the page listing in the search engine results pages.
