    The Title Tag

    Including keywords in the title is no longer necessary. It is more important to have a title that will capture people’s attention so they click on your site. It makes no sense to be ranked number one if no one will click on your site.

    Never use all ALL CAPS. It is considered SHOUTING and difficult to read. It’s best to capitalize the first word (when appropriate). In general the title should be 5-7 words remembering that Google displays a maximum of 64 characters so be sure to limit your title to this number to avoid having your title cut off. Although Yahoo and MSN display more characters in the title (Yahoo! displays 110 characters and MSN will display 70.), it would be best to comply with the Google standards because of the market share they enjoy. If your title shows ellipses (…) at the end, it indicates it was too long and cut off. This harms the message and will most likely affect the click through rate adversely. Continued on page 2…
